Cirque Du Soleil: Delirium in Review

I’m a huge fan of Cirque Du Soleil and I’ve had the pleasure to see Varekai three different times and Dralion once back in 2003. Last weekend I attended Delirium with friends.

We arrived at the American Airlines Stadium where the Miami Heat plays and found our seats down on the floor… They were good seats but unlike the other Cirque Du Soleil shows, this one was not in a tent. The tent set-ups are incredible and every seat has a perfect view of the stage set lower than the audience. Delirium was different. Delirium is not in a tent – it travels to stadiums.

This means that the stage was set higher than the audience. And if you have a floor seat you have to look up for the whole show. I feel bad for the schmucks whom sat in the front row thinking they would have the best seats with views of sweat droplets and nose hair. I bet all they could see was the type of wood the stage was made of and are suffering from neck aches to this day.

I’ve been spoiled by 2 other Cirque Du Soleil shows and studied at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). That officially makes me a “performance art snob”. I once stood in a window covered in Aluminum Foil for a college 4D art class project (4D = time based art). It sounded like a genius idea – at the time. Wearing aluminum foil can rub your skin raw. I don’t recommend it much. I so wish I had some photos of that.

I enjoyed Delirium and was on the edge of my seat but compared to Varekai and Dralion it lacked the ornate costumes, delicious colors, spacial depth and intriguing journey. The story was not as compelling and the stage set up was akward. However, if someone had been wearing aluminum foil I would have been much happier.

I greatly enjoyed Delirium but it didn’t measure up to the other Cirque shows. If you get a chance to see Delirium – go for it; just DON’T get floor seats! You’ll enjoy it more sitting further back.

If they ever come down to the sunny side of the world, I would gladly see it. Top of my list for stage shows though goes to Phantom of the Opera. I’m traditional :P , but it is a fantastic play.

And wow the shot of Delirium here is good, did u take it? Great snap.

I too am a big fan of Cirque du Soliel. I remember back in 1996 I had the chance to go to Las Vegas. While there I saw Cirque du Soliel perform “Mystere” on their own specially built stage.

Everything about the show was fantastic, including the theatre in the round. If the others you mentioned are even half as good, then it is a show not to be missed. I am glad you enjoy this type of performance.

We saw their performance for the first time in March. The Wichita coliseum has low ceilings so there were no acrobatics but we still enjoyed it tremendously. I am am in awe of the skills and dedication to entertain us. At first we were upset abut our seating (off to the side and up a few rows). I believe that we had the best seat in the house. I understand your difficulties of being to close. We especially were in awe of the young lady with the hula hoops and the men’s gymistics team. WOW!! It helped that the wife speaks French so she told me the story line. It was great.

I too was at the Miami show. It was more like a familly reunion as My brother is lead Male singer. The show I thought was fantastic in all aspects but I must be biased. I thuroughly enjoyed the playfull acts of the Dream and let myself explore and think back to some of the dreams I had. As long as you have an open mind about the show you will love it.
Just Remeber Dreams are very wierd yet always enjoyable!

Was I blown away or what, being a musician I really enjoyed the musical journey of tribal, ballad, latin flavor sounds that were produced from the band, did I forget to mention the very talented singers, they were smoking on every song. There was one segment of the show, where one singer was singing in what sounded like Portugese and the other in English very beautiful love ballad. I have expereinced Zumanity and KA in Las Vegas, but for me this was by far worth the money, every aspect of the show was top notch, from the music, to the technical aspect of it all and what was cool we had center seats that were in the Mezzanine section so you saw the entire stage and side video screens, I had a chance to buy floor seats which I am glad that I did not you would definitely miss alot. Hope to see it again next year.
