This was one strong storm. It was anticipated to be a category 1 or MAYBE a tropical storm. A lot of people were not prepared, but most of the damage is just annoying stuff like tree limbs and downed power lines. I have been through some strong thunder storms in the Midwest – but nothing like this! Although I know we are lucky, It could have been worse. There were wind gusts of 125 MPH and we were just south of the eye putting us on the strongest side of the storm.
The craziest part was the 4 to 5 days after the storm without power, gas and picked-over grocery stores. I appreciated what I took for granted before. I kind of find the simplicity a bit peaceful – candlelight, hanging laundry in the sunshine and just getting outside more without distractions like the TV and computer. Some people waited in line 8 hours for gas and the lines were nuts! Some line were a mile long with people pushing their cars to the gas stations after waiting so long that they ran out.
I still have no power. It’s been 11 days but internet came back up yesterday. I’m running my computer off a generator which we are sharing with 2 other neighbors. There’s nothing like hum of a generator to wake you up in the morning. Here’s some photos.
